Towing on I-70

The main artery through St. Charles County, and where most of our highway calls come from. Tell us your direction and the last exit — that is all we need.

● 24/7 highway response ● County licensed ● Insured drivers

On the shoulder right now? Get out of the traffic side of the vehicle, put your hazards on, and if you can do it safely, stand well back from the road behind a barrier. Then call (636) 466-8097 and tell us the highway, the direction you were traveling, and the last exit or mile marker you passed. That is all we need to find you.

The stretch we cover

I-70 enters St. Charles County over the Blanchette Bridge from St. Louis County and runs west through St. Charles, St. Peters, O’Fallon and out to Wentzville, where it meets I-64. We run the whole of it.

The exits people actually break down near, going west: Fifth Street and Zumbehl in St. Charles, Cave Springs, Mid Rivers Mall Drive and Jungermann through St. Peters, Hwy K and Bryan Road in O’Fallon, and Wentzville Parkway and Hwy Z at the western end.

What makes I-70 calls different

Speed and volume. This is a heavily loaded interstate with commuter traffic, freight, and cross-country drivers. A vehicle stopped on the shoulder is in a genuinely hazardous position, and a vehicle stopped in a lane is an emergency.

The shoulder varies. In places there is a generous shoulder. In others — particularly on the bridge approaches and through the older sections — there is very little. Where you have stopped changes how we approach the job.

Construction. MoDOT works this corridor regularly, and lane closures change both where you can safely stop and how quickly a truck can reach you. Mention any cones or barriers when you call.

The bridge bottleneck. An incident on the Blanchette backs traffic up for miles in both directions. A tow company coming from St. Louis County has to get through that; we do not.

Give us three things and we will find you: the highway (I-70), your direction of travel (eastbound or westbound — the shoulders can be a long way apart), and the last exit or mile marker you passed. A dropped pin from your phone works too.

What we get called out for on I-70

  • Blowouts. Debris on an interstate is constant. A shredded tire at speed is common and frequently means no usable spare. See flat tire change.
  • Overheating. Especially in summer traffic on the bridge approaches. Do not keep driving to "make the next exit" — that is how a hose becomes an engine.
  • Collisions. Rear-end impacts in slowing traffic are the classic I-70 crash. See accident recovery.
  • Off into the median. A loss of control at speed puts vehicles well off the road, which is winch-out recovery rather than a straight tow.
  • Out of fuel. More common than people admit, particularly on the long stretch west of Wentzville. See fuel delivery.
  • Commercial breakdowns. Work vans and box trucks on a freight corridor. See commercial and fleet.

What we bring to a highway call

Highway work is different from a driveway. Traffic is moving fast, the shoulder is narrow in places, and the priority is getting you and the vehicle off the road before anything else. Our drivers are insured, our trucks are marked, and we work highway calls every week across St. Charles County.

Whether it ends up being a tire change, a jump start, fuel, a winch-out, accident recovery or a straight tow, one call covers it.

Other corridors we cover

We also run I-64 / US-40 along the southern edge of the county, Highway 370 and the Discovery Bridge, Highway 364 / Page Avenue, Highway 94 south through the wine country, Highway 79 north, and the Blanchette Bridge itself.

Questions

I-70 Towing — Common Questions

I do not know what mile marker I am at. Can you still find me?
Yes. The last exit you passed and your direction of travel is enough. Your phone’s location pin works too — text it if that is easier.
How long will it take you to reach I-70?
Depends on the stretch and what is already running, but we dispatch from inside the county so the Blanchette Bridge is not between us and you.
Is it safer to stay in the car or get out?
On an interstate shoulder, generally get out on the non-traffic side and stand well back behind a barrier if there is one. Vehicles get struck on shoulders. Do not stand behind or beside your car.
What if I am blocking a lane?
Call immediately and say so — those calls take priority. Call 911 as well if there is any injury or if the vehicle cannot be seen in time by oncoming traffic.
Do you cover I-70 outside St. Charles County?
Our license and our base are in St. Charles County, and that is where we concentrate. For a tow beyond the county line, see long distance towing.
Can you tow a work van or box truck off I-70?
Yes — see commercial and fleet towing. Tell us the vehicle size on the phone so we send the right truck.
