Towing on I-64 / US-40

The county’s southern interstate, from the Daniel Boone Bridge west to the I-70 junction. A commuter road with rush hours that bite.

● 24/7 highway response ● County licensed ● Insured drivers

On the shoulder right now? Get out of the traffic side of the vehicle, put your hazards on, and if you can do it safely, stand well back from the road behind a barrier. Then call (636) 466-8097 and tell us the highway, the direction you were traveling, and the last exit or mile marker you passed. That is all we need to find you.

The southern corridor

I-64 enters St. Charles County over the Daniel Boone Bridge from Chesterfield and runs west along the southern edge through Weldon Spring, past O’Fallon and Lake Saint Louis, and out to the I-70 junction at Wentzville. Locals still call much of it Highway 40, and both names refer to the same road.

The exits people break down near: Hwy 94 / Research Park, Hwy K, Hwy DD / Winghaven, Prospect Road and the Wentzville junction at the western end.

What makes I-64 different from I-70

It is a commuter road first. I-70 through the county carries a heavy mix of freight and long-distance traffic. I-64 carries an enormous volume of people going to and from work in west St. Louis County, which concentrates the problems into two windows a day.

The Daniel Boone Bridge is the pinch point. Like the Blanchette on I-70, it is a river crossing, and an incident on it backs traffic up in both directions. It is also the reason a tow company based in Chesterfield or Creve Coeur cannot reach you quickly at 5pm.

Speeds are high and the shoulders are decent. Better than I-70 in places, which helps — but a shoulder is never a safe place to stand.

Business park traffic. The corridor is lined with office and business parks, so work vehicles and fleet cars are well represented in what breaks down here. See commercial towing.

Rush hour changes the advice. If you are on I-64 between about 7–9am or 4–6pm and you can still move the vehicle safely, get it to an exit rather than stopping on the shoulder. A vehicle on the shoulder in stop-start commuter traffic is in a worse position than one in a gas station lot.

The calls we run on this corridor

  • Overheating. Stop-start rush hour traffic in July is hard on cooling systems. Do not try to make it one more exit.
  • Rear-end collisions. The signature commuter crash, and the reason accident recovery is one of our busiest services on this road.
  • Blowouts. Interstate debris, high speeds, and frequently no usable spare. See flat tire change.
  • Fleet and work vehicles. The business parks along the corridor keep a lot of commercial vehicles on this road.
  • Out of fuel. Particularly on the western stretch. See fuel delivery.
  • Into the median. At interstate speeds a loss of control puts a vehicle well off the road — that is winch-out recovery.

What we bring to a highway call

Highway work is different from a driveway. Traffic is moving fast, the shoulder is narrow in places, and the priority is getting you and the vehicle off the road before anything else. Our drivers are insured, our trucks are marked, and we work highway calls every week across St. Charles County.

Whether it ends up being a tire change, a jump start, fuel, a winch-out, accident recovery or a straight tow, one call covers it.

Other corridors we cover

We also run I-70, Highway 370 and the Discovery Bridge, Highway 94 through the wine country, Highway 364 / Page Avenue, Highway 79 north along the river and the Blanchette Bridge.

Questions

I-64 / US-40 Towing — Common Questions

Is I-64 the same as Highway 40?
Yes. Through St. Charles County the road is signed as both I-64 and US-40, and locals use the names interchangeably.
What do you need to find me?
The direction you were traveling and the last exit you passed. A location pin from your phone works too.
My car is overheating in traffic. Should I keep going?
No. Get off the road as soon as it is safe. Continuing to drive an overheating engine turns a cheap repair into an expensive one.
Do you cover the Daniel Boone Bridge?
We cover the St. Charles County side of the corridor. Tell us where you are and we will tell you straight whether we are the right people.
Can you reach me during rush hour?
We dispatch from inside the county, so we are not coming across a river bridge to get to you. Call (636) 466-8097 for a real estimate.
Do you tow work vehicles from this corridor?
Yes — the business parks along I-64 generate a lot of our commercial calls.
