The northern route between St. Charles County and I-270, over the Discovery Bridge. Fast, limited-access, and short on places to stop.
On the shoulder right now? Get out of the traffic side of the vehicle, put your hazards on, and if you can do it safely, stand well back from the road behind a barrier. Then call (636) 466-8097 and tell us the highway, the direction you were traveling, and the last exit or mile marker you passed. That is all we need to find you.
Highway 370 runs along the northern edge of St. Charles and St. Peters, crossing the Missouri River on the Discovery Bridge and connecting to I-270 on the St. Louis County side. It is the alternative to I-70 and the Blanchette for anyone heading toward north St. Louis County or the airport.
It is a limited-access highway with interchanges at Elm Street, Cave Springs, Mid Rivers Mall Drive, New Town and a few others — noticeably fewer than I-70, which matters when you need somewhere to pull off.
Fewer exits than drivers expect. On I-70 there is usually an exit within a mile. On 370 the gaps are longer, and a vehicle that starts misbehaving frequently cannot reach one.
Speeds are high and volume is lower. That combination means when something does go wrong, it goes wrong at speed, and there is less traffic around to notice.
The bridge itself. The Discovery Bridge has no meaningful shoulder in places. A vehicle stopped on it is a serious hazard, and if you can get off the bridge before stopping, do.
Wind on the bridge deck. A river crossing on an elevated deck catches crosswinds, which is a genuine issue for high-sided vehicles and anything towing a trailer.
Industrial traffic. The corridor serves industrial areas on both sides, so there is a steady flow of work trucks and trailers. See commercial towing and trailer towing.
If you break down on the Discovery Bridge deck, treat it as urgent. Hazards on, call (636) 466-8097 immediately, and if you are in a live lane or there is no shoulder, call 911 as well. A vehicle stopped on a bridge deck is one of the more dangerous places to be on a Missouri highway.
Blowouts and tire failures at speed are the most common, followed by overheating and mechanical failures that could not reach an exit. Collisions on 370 tend to be higher-speed than the ones in town, because the road is faster and the traffic is thinner.
We also get a steady number of calls from the New Town area and the industrial parks along the corridor, where work vehicles and trailers operate all day.
Highway work is different from a driveway. Traffic is moving fast, the shoulder is narrow in places, and the priority is getting you and the vehicle off the road before anything else. Our drivers are insured, our trucks are marked, and we work highway calls every week across St. Charles County.
Whether it ends up being a tire change, a jump start, fuel, a winch-out, accident recovery or a straight tow, one call covers it.
We also run I-70, I-64 / US-40, Highway 94 through the wine country, Highway 364 / Page Avenue, Highway 79 north along the river and the Blanchette Bridge.
Direction and last interchange. That is all we need.
